Declare your birth-nerd-iness to the world and decorate your fridge with colourful spiritual motherhood art magnets featuring my original watercolour artwork.
What is a yoni? My husband said to me recently 'how do you feel about using the word yoni when we believe it's very important we use the right names for our body parts with our children?' So I was thinking about what the word yoni means to me. I like to describe women's genitals as yoni when I'm doing so in the context of something more holistic and more spiritual than just my physical anatomy. So if I was talking about the fear that I can tell my tissues are still feeling from my birth injuries, and wanting to help her feel safe to soften and let go of the trauma, I might talk about my yoni.
I like the word yoni because it feels like a softer kinder, more loving term for this magical part of our bodies - that isn't just made of tissue. Our emotions and our energy affect our genitals too. As women - our vaginas, wombs and vulvas are *actually magical*, actually growing *new human beings* and then opening to bring those beings into the world!
I feel like a part of our body that does something so magical also deserves a magical name. I don't use yoni all the time, but just when I'm talking about my vulva and vagina in a holistic way I like to. I like it because it symbolises a move away from the way that I was raised to feel about my body. I grew up feeling like my body was against me and now I know that actually my body has been loving me this whole time and doing her absolute best, I want to use loving words to describe her too.
