I've been 'told off' before for making pictures that say birth is safe. I've had mothers telling me that they think it's immoral and dangerous to be saying that birth is safe when it isn't - because for them birth didn't go to plan.

When I say 'birth is safe' - I don't mean ALL births. I don't mean that things don't go wrong sometimes. My home birth ended in a NICU stay. But it didn't stop me believing in birth.

The reality is that women need medical help much more often because of the fear and disempowerment around birth, and the routine interventions pushed on us that interfere with our bodies natural ability to birth unaided.

When I say birth is safe, I mean that our bodies know what to do in almost all cases. We were born with the ability to grow and birth babies. Birth is fundamental to the continuation of the human race - of course our bodies know how to do it safely.

I find it so sad that our culture has been conditioned to plan for the worst instead of hope for the best - and I don't want to pass that on to my daughters.

So I'll keep saying it - because I believe in our bodies and I believe in mother nature and I believe that under the trauma and the conditioning and the emotional blocks and the energetic resistance, all our bodies know how to birth. And all we need to do is get out of our own way.
